You do not require a referral by your doctor to access counselling. However, you may be eligible for a referral from your doctor. Your doctor can assess you for a Mental Health Care Plan. A Mental Health Care Plan will enable you to receive a rebate of $78.80 for your counselling session. Under the current Medicare arrangements, you may receive a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Both zoom and face to face appointments are available. After making an appointment a zoom link will be sent to you and you can click on it at the time of the appointment to enter the therapy room. Clients may choose to alternate between face-to-face appointments and zoom at their convenience. You are not locked into one mode.
Some private health insurers will provide rebate for counselling for clients who have extras. Check this with your health insurer.
This is not a crisis counselling service. While Katherine does her best to fit in clients who are experiencing a crisis quickly, she does not always have the capacity to do so. For immediate assistance call:

There is no one size fits all in relation to how many counselling sessions you will need. The duration of counselling can vary depending upon the specific goals of the client.

Katherine will listen in an attentive and non-judgemental manner in order to understand the goals you have for counselling. She will take notes which will be kept confidentially and securely. Katherine will discuss ways of working together on the issues you are seeking to resolve. Your reflections on progress will be sought throughout the counselling process.
There are rare times when a therapist may be required to share information about you. They include: If there is a concern about an immediate risk of harm to yourself or to others or if information is subpoenaed by a court.
Reports will be written to the referring GP in general terms about the progress made in counselling. This will be discussed in more detail with you at the session. For more information on privacy please see the attached privacy policy.

If you cancel your appointment more than 24 hours in advance no cancellation fee will be charged. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the appointment a full fee will be charged.
